Interleague Play
NL leads AL 21-13 (138 runs to 121)
AL W L GB SRS
East
NYY 15 6 -- 1.4- Any injuries to their stars will derail this, but the 2nd place Jays can get hot and stay hot, and it won't matter. The Yankees had to figure things out, and right now, it looks like they're figuring them out.
TOR 14 8 1.5 0.3
TBR 12 9 3.0 -0.1
BOS 9 13 6.5 -0.1
BAL 7 14 8.0 -0.6
Central
MIN 12 9 -- 0.4- Luckily, they play in the weakest division in the AL and have the best team by far. As Buxton and Correa stay healthy, the Twins can run this division.
CLE 9 12 3.0 0.1
CHW 8 12 3.5 -1.3
KCR 7 12 4.0 -1.7
DET 7 13 4.5 -1.0
West
LAA 14 8 -- 0.8- The Angels go as Trout and Ohtani, and if both the MVPs are humming, then the Angels could continue to be a threat in the AL, and with Ward, Marsh, Adell, Walsh all giving solid contributions, its a tough team to beat at the moment.
HOU 11 10 2.5 0.2
SEA 11 10 2.5 0.5
OAK 10 11 3.5 0.3
TEX 7 14 6.5 -0.3
NL W L GB SRS
East
NYM 15 7 -- 2.0- The freaking Mets just pitched to a combined no-no, and I think that is only the start. Cohen got the right manager; he has the right players, and this team will potentially run the NL East. Watch out for the following three teams, as each is equally legit and can get hot and stay hot. The Met's have also won each of their first seven series.
MIA 12 8 2.0 1.0
PHI 11 11 4.0 1.0
ATL 10 12 5.0 -0.8
WSN 7 16 8.5 -1.2
Central
MIL 15 7 -- 0.5- Yeli might not be off to the hottest start, but the Brewers pitching and defense win them a lot of games, and the offense behind year has been solid. I like the brewers to repeat as division champs out the gate.
STL 11 9 3.0 0.6
PIT 9 12 5.5 -2.0
CHC 8 13 6.5 -0.8
CIN 3 18 11.5 -2.5
West
SFG 14 7 -- 2.2- The craziest division in baseball is back and firing on all cylinders. I like the Giants with their excellent managing, pitching, defense, and good offense to continue to make the NL wonder how they keep winning and stay atop of the NL West.
LAD 13 7 0.5 1.4
SDP 14 8 0.5 0.2
COL 12 9 2.0 -0.7
ARI 10 12 4.5 -0.1
Who's in if the playoffs started today?
AL: Yankees, Angels, Twins, Blue Jays, Rays, Mariners
NL: Mets, Giants, Brewers, Dodgers, Padres, Marlins
Just Missing: Astros, Cardinals, Phillies, Braves
Big surprise and disappointments
AL: My biggest surprise in the AL has to be the Twins. They are winning, and the pitching and offense are clicking early. Correa has already said he is open to a long-term deal with the team; things are clicking well.
AL: My biggest disappointment as a team thus far has to be the White Sox and not for lack of effort. Injuries to their Star Eloy Jimenez and Luis Robert have gotten them out of the gates on the wrong foot. Luckily the AL Central is winnable, even if you don't win in April.
NL: The New York freaking Mets. Coming off a combined no-hitter on Friday evening, the Mets are hot, and I don't see them cooling down. I have fully become a Buck Showalter fan. I am in on this team, how they built it, and I think they can run away with the NL East.
NL: I am disappointed, but like in a good way for the Rockies and Marlins. Two teams who were expected to be total bottom feeders in the NL look to be possibly 'good' teams. I am confused by it, and I don't love it. However, I am disappointed they aren't doing worse than so far.
However, I am highly disgusted by what is happening in Cincinnati. A 3-18 start. Now that will not cut it, and this team needs to do a lot better.
