Meet 21-year-old Outfielder D'Shawn Knowles, the #27 overall prospect in the Angels farm system. Knowles also is the newest face around the Dust Devils clubhouse as he was called up from the Low-A Inland Empire 66ers.
Movement across BBM is often overlooked, but when there is a switch-hitting OF with lightning speed, high defensive instincts, a strong throwing arm, and one who hits for power from both sides of the plate, that can't go with a few eyebrows being raised.
Knowles signed out of the Bahamas in 2017 at 16-years-old with the Angels. The young OF spent 2020 working out in the Bahamas; DiGiovanna of Baseball America reported in April of 2021 "added five to seven pounds of good weight and reduced his body fat to about 10%, which was something of a pleasant surprise"(DiGiovanna, 2021)
Knowles then spent the 2021 season with the 66ers posting a triple slash of .227(BA)/.280OBP)/.635(OPS) in 84 games. The most extended professional season to date for Knowles after losing all of the 2020 season to the pandemic. Not a great season, but not an awful one for the then 20-year-old
Fast forward to 2022, with the 66ers in 38 games played, he slashed .328/.433/.445, thus earning him a trip from the California League to the North West League with the Dust Devils.
Knowles is currently on track to push for an MLB roster spot come 2024; the Dust Devils won't be his last stop on his Road to the Show.
