Milestone Unlocked- AA Rocket City

After an incredible start to the 2022 Season, RHP Braden Olthoff has been promoted to the LA Angels Double-A affiliate, the Rocket City Trash Pandas.

The 6'4" pitcher earned 2020 and 2021 Second Team All-American Athletic Conference honors at Tulane. Olthoff was a 9th-round pick during the 2021 draft, and the big righty is in his first entire season in the minor leagues. The 23-year-old right-hander is off to AA now to face some of the game's fellow top prospects and get one step closer to The Show.

The season was nothing short of excellent for Olthoff; through 39.0 innings pitched, he had a 1.38ERA, 1.85RA/9, 40K-8BB, earning him a 9.2 K/9 and 1.8 BB/9 and a dismal 0.5 HR/9. Those numbers are call-up worth. Othhoff also earned the North West Leagues pitcher of the Month for April.

Olthoff is off to the Southern League North Division, where he will pitch against top MLB prospects #33 RHP Eury Perez(Miami), #59 OF Michael Harris II(Atlanta), #66 OF Sal Frelick(Milwaukee), #70 RHP Taj Bradley(Tampa Bay), #79 SS Matt Mclain(Cincinnati), #82 OF Joey Wiemer(Milwaukee), #93 LHP Brandon Williamson(Cincinnati) among other talented players.

AA is often a young pitcher's last test before getting the call up to the MLB. We saw that often with Mariners, for example, Logan Gilbert, Matt Brash, and George Kirby. Best of luck to Olthoff on this next step along his path.
